 Sumptuous Santa's and Elegant Elves are original, individual sculptures. These One of a Kind Art Dolls are called “Art Dolls” because they are not to be misunderstood as toys for children. These dolls are individually designed and are geared to attract the collector of fine One of a Kind Art Dolls who have an interest in one of the most endeared seasons of the year. Each original doll is signed and dated. There is no other in the world like it.
My interest in Santa making began many years ago. As a child, Christmas was one of my most treasured memories. My mother was a wonder at making Christmas so very special. She would make Santa and elf figures out of felt, cotton and pipe stems, make imitation snow out of Ivory Flakes and create a beautiful Christmas scene on the fireplace mantel. I was mesmerized by the fantasy she created.
My own children came along and the fantasy continued. I always attempted to bring the magical sense of Christmas into their lives. I would make a Santa out of cardboard, old socks, or most anything to create a Christmas scene. It is, and always will be, my favorite time of the year.
 For many years I worked in porcelain, sculpting my own figures, making the molds, pouring the porcelain slip, firing, cleaning, and painting. This process was very labor intensive and the end product was always disappointing to me because porcelain does not allow the detail of expression that I wanted to achieve in my creations. Then I discovered polymer clay and my whole world changed. The mixed media of polymer clay, textiles, design and paint has given me the opportunity to reach new avenues of expression which has allowed me to bring my ideas to life.
I have studied sculpting with the noted Art Doll artist, Jack Johnston and have received the designation of Master Artist graduating from the Professional Art Doll Studio Seminar. |
